Robert Bateman’s realistic painting style, featuring wildlife in its habitat, encourages the viewer to examine the natural world and reflects his commitment to ecology. Besides being one of Canada’s best-known artists, he is a spokesperson for many environmental issues.

The subject of  numerous books and films, his honours and awards are many, including twelve honourary doctorates, three schools named after him, and Officer of the Order of Canada. His artistic legacy will soon be displayed at the new Bateman Centre in Victoria, BC, with educational initiatives through both the Centre and Royal Roads University.
